Analysis
Research informs multiple people on their opinions regarding specific issues. It also gives an insight to the knowledge that others have already discovered about that topic. With that information, one is able to more clearly refine their reasoning. Thus being able to provide or devise a solution to the problem (or opinion on the topic).
Comparing and contrasting different perspectives helps to inform a person about their position on an issue because it allows them to do the logical thought process needed to form an unbiased opinion. The unbiased opinion comes from careful consideration and thought about multiple perspectives surrounding the topic of discussion while looking past the rhetoric and getting to the facts.
I can effectively defend my position on different issues by: staying informed and doing research on multiple perspectives of that issue, pushing past the rhetoric and looking at the facts, forming a my own logical opinion, and using rhetoric to explain and aid me in convincing others that I am not alone in my stance.

Proposal
My proposal was a 1-3 page paper explaining why I wanted to explore and research my topic. After doing a little research, I decided that researching Grapheme Synesthesia was what I wanted to do.
